To celebrate the digital release of Transformers: The Last Knight, Popculture-y was invited to go for a joy ride in a Chevy Camaro. Instantly the fanboy within me squealed with glee as Sharona offered me the opportunity to cruise along the Sydney streets in a replica Bumblebee. As a child I grew up playing with Hasbro’s Transformers toys as well as waking up early to watch the cartoon series. With visions of being a slightly less handsome Mark Wahlberg, I made my way up to Sydney, eager to partake in nostalgic fantasy.
It’s hard not to notice the 2013 Chevy Camaro, it is definitely a head turner.
The owner, Adam, has captured the likeness of Bumblebee to perfection and has certainly made sure it isn’t missing any of the bells and whistles. The way it looks is one thing, the way it drives is on a completely different level. As we drove through Sydney central the echoes of the engine reverberated through the streets, catching the attention of all passers-by. I was taken aback by the smoothness and power of the Camaro as Adam smiled and said to me, “I know Bumblebee is an Autobot but it drives more like a Decepticon.” All to soon my voyage was over in what is without question, the most intense car ride of my life.
After the experience, I can understand why people are revheads. Your adrenaline gets pumping and the sound of the engine picking up sends bolts of energy though you. Getting to be in a replica Bumblebee has enticed me to rewatch the live-action Transformers series – it’s one thing to watch the movie and envision yourself in the driver’s seat fighting Megatron and his cohorts but after actually being in one of the Autobots I imagine it’s going to be a little bit insightful.
Anyone got a blue semi-truck?
