If you haven’t been watching Adventure Time, I really can’t help you – except to tell you to watch it. Adventure Time is now in its fifth season and showing no signs of slowing down. For more information on why you should definitely check it out, try our post Why You Should Watch Adventure Time.
Perfect for those old and young!
Despite all the furore over My Little Pony and the existence of overly gross bronies, My Little Pony is actually a really good show. Like Adventure Time, it’s great for audiences both young and old. It’s colourful, adorable and fun.
Welcome to Night Vale is one of the best podcasts out there – twice a month, bizarre, intriguing stuff comes out to entice audiences. The topatoco website has some excellent, licensed WTNV merchandise – this shirt is one of my favourites.
I don’t know much about fortysecondseal, but they do some great pop culture-y jewellery and other things! They do superhero merch, Star Wars and Star Trek stuff, and pretty much everything else.
Okay seriously, if you haven’t been reading Captain Marvel, there is something wrong with you. I don’t care what kind of comic books you like to read, Marvel Now’s Captain Marvel is truly excellent. Written by the marvellous Kelly Sue DeConnick and illustrated by the equally marvellous Filipe Andrade (previously Dexter Soy), Captain Marvel is truly gorgeous and truly something to watch.
Get your grubby hands on some Captain Marvel merch, curated by Kelly Sue DeConnick, at the link, or if you’re keen on grabbing some copies of it for friends, try our friends (and Eisner-winning comic book shop) at All Star Comics Melbourne if you’re in Melbourne!
The art speaks for itself. I have the four art prints of the starter Pokemon (Charmander, Bulbasaur, Squirtle and Pikachu), and they’re gorgeous. Definitely a great present for the Pokemaniac in your life!
For the Studio Ghibli fans in your life – The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness. It’s a great documentary with some lovely cinematography and studies of Hayao Miyazaki and some of the other greats in Studio Ghibli.
One of the last Studio Ghibli films ever released, we really enjoyed The Wind Rises (check out our review). With some historical elements, it’s also a beautifully animated film. It is written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, and holds its own in the Ghibli stable. There are a few darker elements (nothing as dark as say, Grave of the Fireflies), but all in all, perfect for your friends.
