Open Channel, with the support of Film Victoria, invites filmmakers to submit an idea for a screen-based project to their Short & Sharp Pitching Competition.

Any genre, format and duration is encouraged, including television series to feature films. Entries close 5pm Wednesday, 16 October 2013. Finalists will present their pitch to a live audience and a judging panel of key industry decision-makers at The George Revival Cinema in St Kilda on Thursday, 31 October 2013.

Open Channel’s recently appointed Executive Director Marc Gracie commented:

A good pitch is the tip of an iceberg – below the surface sits all the work, passion and vision of your project.

Getting the pitch right is about finding the essence below and bringing it to the surface in a way which will enable the idea to shine to attract the partners it needs to come to fruition – financier, producer, director and cast.

This year’s winner will receive $1000 in prize money and $1000 Open Channel training and equipment hires voucher. They will also have the chance for their project to be pitched by the winning producer of Short & Sharp Pro at the SPAA / Holding Redlich Pitching Competition in November this year.

Entries close 5pm Wednesday, 16 October 2013. Entry is free for Open Channel members and $30 for non-members. For more information, check out or contact Ally Curtis on 03 8327 2016.
